Most often, the Winter’s Doe provides her games in the wilds of New York City at random and without compensation, appearing only for an evening before she’s gone with the cold night air. However, she can be bought:
The Winter’s Doe and the Summer’s Fox have much to offer your next event. Our offerings serve to immerse the audience in your event, allowing them to become participants rather than just observers.
We are able to customize our offerings to your event’s theme on request. It is our goal to elevate the atmosphere of your event—not distract from it.
We have been commissioned for events ranging from Night of 1,000 Stevies in both NYC and New Orleans to The People of CX’s 7-floor Halloween parties called Tell No One in the former McKittrick Hotel.
While we won’t ruin the mystery and give too much away, here’s a taste of what we offer:
IMMERSIVE GAMES
We currently run 3 games which can be held individually or concurrently. We call these games “Wild Hunts” or Quests. The Winter’s Doe is the game mistress. The first Hunt is a version of fetch, where an audience member finds one of many hanging icicles or hanging gold roses and must then locate the Doe or the Fox to return that item and receive a reward.
The second Hunt is a scavenger hunt that takes place throughout your venue. An audience member discovers a scroll, which outlines three items they need to collect in order to win their Hunt and their reward. The third Hunt is a hide-and-seek with a hidden item, which is unlocked by some players during either the first or second Hunt.
DIVINATION
The Winter’s Doe and the Summer’s Fox are skilled in many divinatory arts. We specialize in the familiar—tarot and rune reading—but can also bring more curious options like oracle decks, pendulum, ogham, osphresiomancy, pyromancy, cleidomancy, and osteomancy. The Winter’s Doe and the Summer’s Fox are available together or separately for this.
The Winter’s Doe’s performer is New York’s premier rune reader since 2014, teaching and reading runes at Catland Books, Witch Please, PSNY’s The Poetry Brothel, the TransCultural Exchange Conference, and more. The Summer’s Fox’s performer read tarot for over 2 decades at private events and fairs. Both read at Night of 1,000 Stevies, Hekate Café, and Moonlight Market.
PERFORMANCES
The Winter’s Doe and the Summer’s Fox together offer a few interactive activations:
Counsel of the Queens
The two Queens sit side by side at a table. The Winter’s Doe listens to those with heaviness on their hearts, detangles their struggles, and provides wisdom for their problems. The Summer’s Fox sniffs out the bold of soul, looks into their psyches, and offers humorous motivational insults that cut to the spirit of the matter. Before parting, the participant draws a card from an oracle deck to get a message from the fae land of Hy-Brasil. This offering is a form of active listening combined with psychic abilities and has been presented to mindful spaces as well as rave parties; it offers something for everyone.
Nametaking Ceremony
“May I have your name?” is a common question in fae lore, where the question is taken literally and the fae then owns the answering person’s name. In this twist, our Queens offer a ceremony where participants offer their names for the Summer’s Fox to steal and bury. After, they can be hallowed by the Winter’s Doe with a new name. For some, this is fun for an evening of transformative play—for others, this can be a cathartic relinquishing of a dead name. On request, the Queens can also provide printed forms for participants to begin their own legal name change process in NY.
The Fairy Market
In fae lore, the fairy market is a place where—if one was willing to risk it—a person could go to make a fairy deal. The Queens sell items for coin that are imbued with magic: Fox’s candles to manifest one’s true desires and Doe’s necklaces created to draw specific intentions into one’s own life. The Queens also offer fairy dealmaking. Coin is rarely accepted during their fairy deals; instead, one must part with something on their person to barter. Perhaps a blessing will be won, or an enchanted object… or something a little trickier. Guests roll dice to try their luck and see if a deal can be struck! Don’t forget to ask about the Secret Menu.
