The Bookings

Most often, the Winter’s Doe offers her games in the wilds of New York City at random and without compensation, appearing only for an evening before she’s gone with the cold night air. However, she can be bought:

Calluna bookings immerse guests in your event, allowing entry to another world by becoming participants rather than observers. The Winter’s Doe and the Summer’s Fox specialize in whimsy that enhances the atmosphere, so bookings can be tailored to your event.

Calluna supported Night of 1,000 Stevies at Irving Plaza, NYC (Rhiannon & Moonlight) and New Orleans; The People of CX’s 7-floor Halloween parties Tell No One in the former McKittrick Hotel; Shadow Traffic‘s Cryptid Safari; Monstrous’ Krampusnacht; and more.

While not spoiling the mystery with detail, bookings include:

IMMERSIVE GAMES

We currently run 3 games which can be held individually or concurrently. We call these games “Wild Hunts” or Quests. The Winter’s Doe is the game mistress. The first Hunt is a version of fetch, where an audience member finds one of many hanging icicles or hanging gold roses and must then locate the Doe or the Fox to return that item and receive a reward.

The second Hunt is a scavenger hunt that takes place throughout your venue. An audience member discovers a scroll, which outlines three items they need to collect in order to win their Hunt and their reward. The third Hunt is a hide-and-seek with a hidden item, which is unlocked by some players during either the first or second Hunt.

DIVINATION

The Winter’s Doe and the Summer’s Fox are skilled in many divinatory arts. We specialize in the familiar—tarot and rune reading—but can also bring more curious options like oracle decks, pendulum, ogham, osphresiomancy, pyromancy, cleidomancy, and osteomancy. The Winter’s Doe and the Summer’s Fox are available together or separately for this.

The Winter’s Doe’s performer is New York’s premier rune reader since 2014, teaching and reading runes at Catland Books, Witch Please, PSNY’s The Poetry Brothel, the TransCultural Exchange Conference, and more. The Summer’s Fox’s performer read tarot for over 2 decades at private events and fairs. Both read at Night of 1,000 Stevies, Hekate Café, and Moonlight Market.

PERFORMANCES

The Winter’s Doe and the Summer’s Fox together offer a few interactive activations:

The Fairy Market
In fae lore, the fairy market is a place where—if one was willing to risk it—a person could go to make a fairy deal. The Queens sell items for coin that are imbued with magic: Fox’s manifestation candles and Doe’s enchanted necklaces, among other fantastical creations. The Doe also offers fairy dealmaking. During a fairy deal, a guest rolls dice and risks parting with something on their person in order to win a prize. Test luck to see if a deal can be struck! The Fox offers custom potion making where the outcome of the potion might be a blessing… or something a little trickier.

The Accolade
Inspired by this painting, one of the Queens wears her finest gown and provides Accolade ceremonies. This is the knighting tradition, when someone kneels and then is dubbed with a sword tap on each shoulder in order to receive a new title or initiation. While this booking pairs easily for fun in a variety of fantasy, medieval, and Renaissance settings, an Accolade can also be done for any of life’s major moments. Graduations, birthdays, weddings, championships—any time that someone has faced a challenge or has cause for celebration pairs well here.

Counsel of the Queens
The two Queens sit side by side at a table. The Winter’s Doe listens to those guests with heaviness on their hearts, untangles their struggles, and provides wisdom for their problems. The Summer’s Fox sniffs out the story on a soul, looks into their psyches, and offers humorous motivational insults that cut to the core of the matter. After, the guest draws an oracle card to get a message from the fae land of Hy-Brasil. This offering is a form of active listening combined with psychic abilities. Mindful spaces as well as rave parties have enjoyed this booking.

Nametaking Ceremony
“May I have your name?” is a common phrase in fae lore, where the question is taken literally and the fairy then owns the answering person’s name. In this twist, the Queens offer a ceremony where participants offer their names for the Summer’s Fox to steal and bury. After, they can be hallowed by the Winter’s Doe with a new name. For some, this is fun for an evening of transformative play—for others, this can be a cathartic relinquishing of a dead name. On request, the Queens can also provide printed forms for participants to begin their own legal name change process in NY.

Fairy Banquet
Pictured below, this activation is our largest. It’s inspired by the lore that one should never eat fairy food: to do so would trap a human in the fae realm. For this, a banquet table is set with elixirs, bread, honey, fruit, and baked goods, over which the Queen(s) presides. Guests are seated, but once they take a taste or a sip, they become trapped in their seats. Only by helping the fae find a “changeling” to take their seat/place can a guest be freed. Guests are welcome to enjoy all the banquet has to offer while they are trapped. The banquet is accompanied by live harp playing.
